Hot Plates are a type of trap that appears in de Blob and de Blob 2. They're heated plates that are placed on floors and the tops of buildings, and will fry Blob if he touches them. Luckily, they usually come with a button that can be slammed to deactivate them temporarily.

In de Blob[]

In de Blob, Blob will get stuck to a Hot Plate if he touches it, and also lose 30 seconds of time (represented by Blob dropping a 30-second clock pickup which can be recollected). The player must shake the Wii Remote (or spam the jump button in remastered editions) to break Blob free before he loses all his paint points and dies.

In the first game, the plates are circular with four clamps on the sides sitting on the ground. The base is larger than the actual top plate due to the angular design of the trap. Between the main base and the main plate is a thin black ring.

They are introduced predominantly in Downtown, but are slowly phased out in favour of spike and electric traps in later levels. Like most traps, this can be placed on the walls or the ground, and does include a switch to disable them for a short period of time.

In de Blob 2[]

In de Blob 2, Blob catches on fire if he touches a Hot Plate. While on fire, Blob will slowly lose paint points (much like with ink, except Blob retains his colour) and must touch water to extinguish himself. Like in de Blob, hot plates can come with a switch to temporary disable them. However, there are those that do no have them and are time - based.

They make an appearance in The Senate, protecting the roofs in Prisma Hill, as well as two key landmarks in the level, the Prisman Memorial and The Senate. These plates appear more often than the previous game; like the other traps, they are redesigned to be triangular in shape and has four triangular rings on the top. There is dark orange, followed by a fiery orange and the sequence repeats again.
